Dinner in Italy, Day 2

After a beautiful drive and after finding our hotel our stomachs reminded us it was time for dinner. We walked around the tiny village looking for a good cafe or restaurant. In Europe they typically have the menu posted on the outside of the cafe. However, now that we were on Italian soil, the menu didn't mean much to us. We decided on a restaurant and walked in. Our waiter came over to greet us and then took us to our table, I then noticed a few differences between us. Our waiter wore a creased black suit with a bow tie. We were glistening with sweat from a long drive in the car, and we were still wearing our shorts, T-shirts,and sandals. Justin and I took a quick survey of our surrounding and we immediately felt under dressed and out of place.

Luckily, our waiter spoke English. Justin quickly apologized for our appearance's and asked about the menu. I tried to keep the kids from breaking the glass containers on our table, while Justin got a quick run down on the menu. For some odd reason Justin couldn't remember all 20 of the items that were rehearsed to him. Instead, we blindly pointed to something on our menu and hoped we did good.

We typically don't eat out with our children, especially at nice restaurants. We tried to keep the girls voices down to not draw any more unwanted attention to ourselves.
The surprise dinner finally came. Justin had ordered mozzarella and tomatoes, and I ordered a fantastic pasta dish, which we shared with the girls. Italians are known for enjoying and taking their time during meals. We did just the opposite. We ate and then left. Our waitor seemed a bit suprised we didn't stay for dessert or coffee. We didn't want a moment longer of humiliation.

We always eat sooo fast and it's because with kids, there is never time, especially at restaurants! We don't even go to red robin without causing a huge scene!!

It was soooo fun talking today!!! Nathan just posted a comment to Justin on your sound of music post.

fresh mozzerella, tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar salad? In Italy? I am really thinking you had a very tasty meal, that has to be one of my favorite salads.

The pictures are just spectacular. Thanks for including us in all your travels!

Italian food is by far my favorite. We always survive by ordering ice cream for dinner for the boys. That is the only way we get to enjoy our dinner. Try it out sometime!

When our kids were younger we had the same problem! When they get older they will learn how to act better but you have to keep taking them to resturants so they can train! Keep smiling!
