The Romantic Rhine, Day 1

We decided it would be fun to enjoy our long weekend at the Romantic Rhine River. It was so beautiful and we saw so many castles. In about a 20 minute drive we saw 12 castles.

The castles were built mainly as a toll system to those who traveled the river. The castles would lower their draw bridge and demand payment to continue. With so many castles we had to be selective we decided Rheinstein castle would be a good choice.

Ayla sure has a "I can do it" attitude. She wouldn't let us even hold her hand.

Keanna has really gotten into posing, I think its so cute.

Justin, Ayla, Keanna and a great view! Perfection!

Why is it that the kids like to fight in the most dangerous places? The girls both wanted to look out the same hole and began to push each other. Yes, I was a little uptight about a shoving match a couple 100 feet above the road.

I sure have a cute family!

This was the scariest part! Take a good look at the walkway up to the turret. It's about shoulder width apart and the only thing from keeping us from falling to our untimely death were those flimsy iron rails. There was easily enough room for a young child to slide through one of the openings.

I was freaking out, just a little.

I liked this view from the top of this turret. Nice and enclosed :) and I owe one to whomever thought of indoor plumbing.

What goes up, must come down. This is exactly what our girls are doing, coming down a steep turret on their rear ends.

Emily, standing on the drawbridge. What an incredible castle.

This picture was taken from the parking lot. Ayla insisted that she did it "all by herself" even she walked to the highest point at this castle. The kids should sleep well tonight.

Hey, fantastic pictures! I can't believe how beautiful everything is! My favorite, however, is the pictures of the girls fighting and you freaking out from the 100 foot drop and what is Justin doing to help? Documenting it all! I love it! By the way, you look so cute, do you do a lot of clothes shopping? I've got to get over there!
